Attack on Crimea Bridge, did Russian intelligence fail to notice?

Since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022, Russia has shown a very distinct characteristic: every time we think it has the situation under control, it always finds a way to mess up that is unimaginable to the outside world.

Following the attack on Russian air force bases, the Ukrainian Security Service recently issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack on the Crimea Bridge, stating that its agents placed explosives at the bridge piers and detonated them at 4:44 AM on March 3. The underwater support structure of the bridge was severely damaged.

It is worth noting that the Ukrainian statement emphasized that this attack took several months from planning to execution — what does this mean?

If we count this attack, the Crimea Bridge has been hit three times since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Although the bridge has now resumed operations, this attack can be described as having little physical impact but being extremely insulting.

If Russian intelligence failed to detect the first two attacks, it might be explained by the initial lack of preparation during the early stages of the war. However, with the third attack on the Crimea Bridge, especially when Ukrainian agents managed to place bombs right under Russian noses, there is no explanation that makes sense other than questioning the level of Russian intelligence.
