According to Kazakh International News Agency, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Erlan Koshkarbaev (Ермек Көшербаев), attended the mourning ceremony held in honor of Iran's Supreme Leader Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei (Сейед Әли Хаменей).
During his visit, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian (Масуд Пезешкиан) met with Erlan Koshkarbaev, who also held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi (Аббас Аракчи).
Erlan Koshkarbaev conveyed condolences on behalf of the President of Kazakhstan and the entire people of Kazakhstan to the leadership and people of Iran, and extended wishes for the swift recovery of the injured.
During their meeting with President Pezeshkian, both sides discussed follow-up measures regarding agreements reached during his official visit to Kazakhstan from December 10 to 11, 2025, and exchanged views on regional developments and their future prospects.
In talks with Araghchi, both sides discussed bilateral cooperation, collaboration within international and regional organizations, and the development of Kazakh-Iranian relations.
Koshkarbaev reiterated Kazakhstan’s commitment to further strengthening traditional friendship, good-neighborliness, and mutually beneficial cooperation with Iran, emphasizing the important role played by Iran and other regional countries in maintaining regional stability and security.
During the discussions, both sides highlighted the significance of the agreement reached between Iran and the United States under the framework of a mutual understanding memorandum.
Both parties particularly focused on the agreement signed on June 28, 2026, at Shahid Rajai Port in Bandar Abbas (Бендер-Аббас), Iran, whereby Iran will provide land to Kazakhstan for the construction of a transport logistics terminal. This project is a key initiative implementing the instructions of the President of Kazakhstan aimed at enhancing national transportation and transit potential and expanding export capabilities.
The two sides stated that once operational, the logistics terminal will help expand trade between Kazakhstan and Iran. Data shows that bilateral trade volume increased by 26.4% year-on-year in 2025, reaching $430.2 million.
After the talks, both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation between Kazakhstan and Iran and expand interaction across all areas of the bilateral agenda.
