Korean Media: Vietnam, the Last Frontier for Chinese EVs, Could See VinFast Break Annual Records!
On September 15, South Korean media outlet Today Digital published an article stating that Vietnamese automaker VinFast delivered 21,781 electric vehicles in July alone, increasing its cumulative deliveries from January to July to 137,697 units. This figure represents 79% of VinFast’s total Vietnamese deliveries last year, which stood at 175,099 units.
The July delivery volume marked a 21.3% increase compared to June’s 17,955 units. If this trend continues, VinFast is likely to significantly surpass last year’s record in the Vietnamese market this year.
In the overall Vietnamese automotive market, VinFast holds approximately a 29% market share. In contrast, despite their global success, Chinese electric vehicles have a relatively weak presence in Vietnam—no Chinese brand appeared in the top ten sales rankings during the first half of 2026, with a market share below 2%.
VinFast’s sales growth has been driven primarily by compact cars and commercial vehicle models. As of July, the best-selling model remains the 7-seater electric MPV “Limo Green,” with cumulative deliveries reaching 32,331 units, including 4,404 units delivered in July.
For July specifically, the most popular model was the small electric car “VF3,” with 5,564 units delivered. Cumulative deliveries for this model now stand at 29,345 units. The “VF5” and commercial derivative model “Herio Green” together delivered 4,407 units in July, bringing their combined total to 24,574 units.
The company’s affordability strategy has also played a key role. VinFast reduced the price of its ultra-compact four-seater electric vehicle, the “Minio Green,” to approximately $7,100, resulting in 2,429 units delivered in July. This model serves both as a city-center mobility solution and as an alternative to motorcycles.
The small electric vehicle “VF2” is another component of VinFast’s expansion strategy for the second half of the year. Starting in July, the company began accepting pre-orders, securing 28,742 orders, with deliveries scheduled to begin in September. In July, the “VF6” and “VF MPV7” delivered 1,993 and 1,674 units respectively, bringing their cumulative deliveries to 16,038 and 1,851 units.
VinFast’s sales composition indicates that demand for electric vehicles in Vietnam is shifting toward smaller sedans and high-range commercial vehicles, rather than large sedans. Last year, VinFast delivered 196,919 electric vehicles globally, with 175,099 units coming from Vietnam—further confirming that the domestic market remains the core driver of the company’s growth.
