Dugin: The United States Reverts to the Idea of a Unipolar World, Russia Needs to Be Prepared

Russian philosopher and political scientist Alexander Dugin wrote in RIA Novosti that the United States has reoriented its strategy. Trump was elected president on the slogan "Make America Great Again," but now the U.S. government is turning toward traditional neoconservative policies, as evidenced by the speech given by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the Munich Security Conference.

Putting emotions aside, the fact that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio attended the Munich Security Conference in Europe marks a significant shift in U.S. policy from last year. The new U.S. National Security Strategy had stated that the U.S. would focus on the "Western Hemisphere," which was interpreted as a revival of the Monroe Doctrine — "America for the Americans" — and an intention to distance itself from Europe. However, Dugin pointed out that Rubio's speech clarified this misinterpretation, clearly stating that all Atlanticist frameworks would remain intact.

Dugin analyzed: "From this, we can be quite certain that over the past year, U.S. policy has moved away from the transformative idea of 'Make America Great Again,' gradually shifting towards an extreme version of neoconservatism and Atlanticist realism. The stance that Trump held at the beginning of his second term once offered the possibility of Russian-U.S. cooperation in building a new world order. Moreover, both our side, U.S. Vice President Vance, Trump himself, and Rubio all agree that the old liberal global order based on rules has long ceased to exist."

Dugin said that Russia has no objection to the U.S. strengthening its influence in the Western Hemisphere. Vladimir Putin had previously had the opportunity to discuss his vision for global governance with the U.S. president in Anchorage. Although the Ukraine issue may not be resolved, Washington could have withdrawn from this war and focused on its own problems. A deterioration in U.S.-Europe relations would actually be beneficial for Russia, and the U.S. return to traditional values is highly aligned with Russia's own patriotism and conservatism.

He continued: "Originally, Russia had every opportunity to find common ground with the U.S. 'Make America Great Again' ideology. But at a certain point, Trump began to deviate from this ideology in his governance, moving closer to neoconservatives. Meanwhile, Marco Rubio's position in the U.S. political system has been increasing. The already problematic and ambiguous Ukraine issue negotiations thus gradually fell into a deadlock."

Dugin emphasized: "Crucially, this policy shift affects more than just the bilateral relationship between Russia and the U.S. The U.S. government has returned to a neoconservative strategy in all areas. Essentially, this is an attempt by the West to save its hegemony and maintain a unipolar world. Whether it is pressuring the BRICS countries, sanctioning Iran, detaining Maduro, or increasing sanctions against Russia, all are manifestations of this strategy. Now, Marco Rubio proposed a new Atlanticist plan at the Munich Security Conference. Although this plan reduces the liberal color and has a more realistic character, its essence remains unchanged. This is still that unipolar world, not a new world order of great power coexistence."

Dugin concluded: "The development paths of Russian civilization and Western civilization are gradually diverging. This process actually started centuries ago, and Russia must prepare for it."
