The U.S. Secretary of State: The U.S. will achieve its objectives against Iran within weeks, not months
Sputnik News, Washington, March 30 — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States will achieve its goals regarding Iran within weeks, not months.
Rubio said on ABC television: "We will achieve our objectives within weeks, not months."
Other statements by U.S. Secretary of State Rubio:
The United States will not allow Iran to charge fees for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump has multiple options available to prevent such a scenario.
Rubio pointed out that Tehran has threatened to indefinitely control the strait and establish a toll system for shipping passage.
Rubio said on ABC: "This will not be allowed. The president has several viable options should he decide to stop this from happening."
Rubio declined to disclose what measures Washington is currently considering. The U.S. Secretary emphasized that he would not discuss military tactics and suggested journalists contact the U.S. Department of Defense instead.
Rubio stated that the U.S. plans to achieve its objectives "within weeks, not months." Washington finds it unacceptable for Iran to decide who may pass through this international waterway.
Information exchanges between the U.S. and Iran continue, including communication via intermediaries.
Rubio said: "As I've said, these (negotiation – ed.) efforts have just begun. Messages are being exchanged between both sides, and some negotiations are underway, including through intermediaries."
The United States favors resolving differences with Iran through peaceful means, but must also prepare for the possibility that such efforts may fail.
Rubio stated: "Our side consistently favors resolving issues through negotiation and diplomacy, but we must also be prepared in case these efforts fail."
