Iran hopes the Middle East will not fall into a trap under Ukraine's proposal
¬ Iranian government spokesperson: Civilian casualties have increased significantly in this war
¬ Iran does not seek nuclear weapons, despite parliament discussing withdrawal from the Non-Proliferation Treaty
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghai stated that Iran hopes the Middle East will not fall into a trap as a result of Ukraine's proposal to regional countries.
Previously, Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed supplying certain Ukrainian intercept drones to Persian Gulf states amid escalating military tensions between the U.S. and Israel against Iran.
Iran’s SNN TV reported quoting Baghai: "Linking Ukraine’s conflict with the open aggression by the U.S. and Israel against Iran is a disastrous mistake and miscalculation. I believe countries in this region will not fall into such a trap."
He argued that Zelenskyy’s visit to Middle Eastern countries during the Iran crisis was an attempt to 'plunder' these nations.
Iranian government spokesperson Fatima Mohajerani provided civilian casualty data during an exclusive interview with TASS News Agency.
She said: "More than 200 women have been killed in Iran, and over 200 people under the age of 18 have also died. I cannot give exact figures, but both numbers exceed 200."
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Baghai said that while Iran’s parliament is currently reviewing the issue of Tehran withdrawing from the Non-Proliferation Treaty, Tehran has no intention of acquiring nuclear weapons.
Baghai said at a press conference: "Indeed, as announced by parliament, this issue is under consideration, and members of society have also raised similar questions. This is a very important matter, and the answer is not simple: the public has posed a very reasonable question—since we are unable to exercise our rights as a treaty member, what purpose does remaining in the treaty serve?"
Baghai emphasized that Tehran has consistently abided by the provisions of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, stating that "Tehran never had nuclear weapons in the past, nor does it seek them now."
Other statements from the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson include:
Iran did not participate in the meeting held in Islamabad between the U.S. and other parties;
No direct negotiations have taken place with the United States since the last round of talks;
The proposals conveyed by the U.S. to Tehran are "excessive and unreasonable";
Given the continuously escalating intensity of attacks by the U.S. and Israel against Iran, Tehran’s priority remains national protection;
The U.S. and Israel are deliberately exploiting this conflict to conceal the truth, deceive the Iranian people and the broader international community, while simultaneously committing violations against journalists and media organizations.
