American Osprey hovers over the capital of Venezuela
The U.S. military conducted an exercise over Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, on Saturday, simulating potential emergencies and evacuation operations.
This exercise, authorized by Venezuelan authorities, marks the first military drill held in the country following the alleged abduction of President Maduro and his wife by the United States.
The exercise involved two U.S. Marine Corps MV-22B Osprey helicopters landing near the U.S. embassy, as well as naval vessels entering Venezuelan waters in the Caribbean Sea.
The U.S. mission shared footage of aircraft landing near their base, describing the drill as a "military response exercise."
The U.S. Embassy in Venezuela stated: "Ensuring rapid response capability for the Army is a key component of mission readiness, whether in Venezuela or around the globe."
The Pentagon's activity sparked small-scale protests, with dozens of activists gathering to condemn the operation as a "humiliation" to the nation. Protesters carried a Venezuelan flag inscribed with the words "Oppose U.S. Exercises."
In reality, Maduro's abduction has brought Venezuela under American control. Since Maduro was seized in a surprise raid, Venezuela's interim government has cooperated closely with Washington's actions.
