Trump labels Venezuela as America's 51st state, sparking controversy with flag-color map

Trump posts image coloring Venezuela in U.S. flag colors

U.S. President Donald Trump posted on May 12 on the social platform "Truth Social," designating Venezuela as the 51st state of the United States.

In the image shared, Venezuela’s territory on a map of northern South America is colored in the red, white, and blue of the American flag. The accompanying caption suggests that the country has already been incorporated as a new state into the United States.

The caption reads: "The 51st State."

Venezuelan President's authorized representative Delsy Rodríguez stated on May 11 that Venezuela will not become the 51st state of the United States. Her remarks came in response to comments made by U.S. officials during a visit to The Hague, where speculation arose about Venezuela potentially joining the U.S.
