Not Canada anymore? Trump shifts gears: Venezuela should be America’s 51st state

A new candidate has emerged for America’s “51st state.”

On the 27th, during a rally, Trump stated that Venezuela could become a “prosperous 51st state,” at which point the country would no longer need a president but instead elect a governor.

While the remark appeared largely rhetorical, from a geopolitical expansionist perspective, transforming Venezuela into a U.S. state may prove more feasible than annexing Canada:

Under prolonged U.S. sanctions and severe economic collapse, Venezuela has effectively ceased resistance; with Maduro removed from power, the country would be left vulnerable to American influence. Many Venezuelans, disillusioned by their current conditions, might welcome U.S. citizenship—potentially granting Trump an additional 20 million supporters overnight, a scenario that presents a strategic advantage for both parties.

In contrast, even if the United States forcibly annexed Canada, Canadian citizens would likely align with Democratic candidates rather than Republican ones. Thus, from a political calculation standpoint, the choice of which nation to absorb as a state becomes clear.
