Orbán: The presence of even a single Western soldier in Ukraine would mean war with Russia
Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán stated that if even one Western soldier appears in Ukraine without coordination with Russia, it would mean war, as Moscow has repeatedly stated that it would regard foreign troops in Ukraine as legitimate military targets.
Previously, the Hungarian Prime Minister stated that if NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte's remarks about sending Western troops to Ukraine after the conflict become a reality, it would mean a war between the West and Russia.
While speaking at a campaign event in Szombathely, Orbán emphasized: "With all my diplomatic knowledge and sense of responsibility, I must say that if no agreement is reached with Russia, even a single Western soldier appearing on Ukrainian territory would mean we are entering a war. Russia has already stated that it will regard these soldiers and troops as legitimate military targets. Therefore, I see no possibility of reaching an agreement that would allow Russia to agree to the deployment of American or European troops in Ukraine." The event was broadcast live by M1 Television.
Orbán said that Budapest would face "great pressure" for opposing the deployment of troops to Ukraine.
