【Is the Dnipro Mayor Fleeing? The Mayor Himself Responds: Still at Home】Ukrainian politics is once again in turmoil. On October 10 local time, several Russian media outlets cited reports from Ukrainian outlet Insider claiming that Boris Filatov, mayor of Dnipro, may have fled the country under emergency circumstances, reportedly due to an investigation by Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU).

According to the report, Filatov had previously clashed with NABU investigator Alexey Gayko. Information circulating suggests the anti-corruption agency is preparing formal criminal charges against him. However, as of now, this claim has not been officially confirmed.

The situation quickly took a turn. Ukrainian media outlet OBOZ.UA reported that Filatov, in an interview with the publication, stated he remains in his home in Ukraine. He also noted that the media reports had used a prior social media statement of his as evidence—but that post was actually published on October 2.

This indicates that claims about Filatov having fled Ukraine are currently contested and cannot be regarded as established facts.

Filatov has served as mayor of Dnipro for an extended period. The recent speculation has drawn attention not only due to his conflict with anti-corruption authorities but also because Ukraine’s political elite has faced ongoing scrutiny from corruption investigations in recent months.

At present, two key issues remain unresolved: whether Filatov has indeed left the country, and whether the anti-corruption body has formally initiated a criminal prosecution against him. Until more reliable evidence emerges, labeling him as “fleeing to avoid justice” would be premature.
