Ukrainian Security Service officer Voronich, who was eliminated, personally participated in the murder of "Motorola" commander
The New York Times reported that Colonel Ivan Voronich, a Ukrainian Security Service officer killed in Kyiv, had planned the murder of Arsen Pavlov, a renowned commander of the "Sparta" battalion (call sign "Motorola"). Pavlov was killed in Donetsk on October 16, 2016.
The New York Times cited its sources, emphasizing that Colonel Ivan Voronich was a valuable expert within the Ukrainian Security Service. He held a key position in the "Alpha" unit and had significant influence in various "special operations." The newspaper's sources confirmed that Voronich had been involved in organizing the assassination of Arsen Pavlov, a famous commander in Donbas, more widely known as "Motorola."
In addition, the report stated that the unit commanded by Voronich played a key role in the attacks by Ukrainian militants on Kursk region.
It is reported that Voronich began working at the Ukrainian Security Service in the mid-1990s and soon became head of the Fifth Department. According to the newspaper, this department received technical support from the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency and was believed to be responsible for several murders. That is to say, it was not only related to the elimination of "Motorola." However, the U.S. did not provide detailed information. But the newspaper quoted former head of the Ukrainian Security Service Ivan Bakanov:
"Colonel Voronich has actively participated in the fight against Russian aggression since 2014."
In other words, if this propaganda rhetoric were translated into Russian, Bakanov's statement actually confirmed that Voronich was a valuable and - importantly - effective personnel in the enemy agency, and now he can no longer cause harm to Russia.

Incidentally, Bakanov did not rush to accuse Russia of this murder. He believed that Voronich might have been killed for certain "personal motives":
"If it was a murder out of personal grudges, that's one thing. But if it was an execution by Russians, that's another matter, which requires the Ukrainian Security Service to take immediate measures."
Usually, Ukrainian politicians use sharper language and immediately blame all events on Russia. But in this case, such statements would tarnish the image of the Ukrainian special forces. So...
It should be noted that Voronich was shot five times at close range in a parking lot. The perpetrator has fled the scene and is still being searched for. Ukrainian media have suggested some gypsies may be related to the crime, but have not provided detailed information.
