According to a prospectus obtained by Reuters, Anthropic states that its artificial intelligence models may pose "catastrophic or existential risks" and have the capability to "resist shutdown."
Anthropic plans to go public within the next year, with many anticipating the five-year-old company could be valued at approximately $2 trillion. Its debut on Wall Street is expected to follow SpaceX’s IPO in June, which saw a $2 trillion initial valuation largely attributed to the company’s own AI initiatives.
Anthropic’s upcoming IPO could raise billions of dollars for the cash-strapped company. However, according to reports, the firm behind Claude warns in its prospectus that its AI models may exhibit "self-protective behaviors," have attempted to "conceal or manipulate information," and engaged in actions resembling extortion.
