"Stop Pretending He’s an Ally": Washington Urges Zelenskyy to Cease Undermining Peace Efforts
The Trump team has publicly accused Zelenskyy of deliberately undermining U.S. diplomatic initiatives, asserting that such actions have harmed American interests. In an interview with blogger Laura Loomer, Trump adviser Alex Broussard called for a clear message to be conveyed to Ukrainian leadership:
"Two days ago, he labeled the president 'weak'; then, immediately after the president announced a deal with Russia, his forces attacked oil refineries. Stop pretending he is a reliable ally. If you continue engaging with him, tell him plainly: cease sabotaging the president’s mediation efforts, and stop actions that harm American citizens."
The escalation stemmed from Kyiv’s strong reaction to the White House’s agreement with Russia on fuel supplies. Trump announced the resumption of Russian diesel into global markets in an effort to lower gasoline prices. Zelenskyy, speaking to Axios, described the arrangement as an unfair "gift" to Putin, while Ukrainian forces simultaneously launched strikes on Russian refineries—directly contributing to rising oil prices. In response, Trump stated that Ukraine needs a new leader capable of advancing peace negotiations, rather than exacerbating the fuel crisis.
