Xiaoquan is furious! Demands "explanation from China"

According to a June 30 report by Japanese media TBS News: Regarding China's announcement of adding Japan's Ministry of Defense and the Defense Research Institute to its export control list, Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba expressed intent to "request an explanation from China."

Shigeru Ishiba stated: “This is absolutely unacceptable. I have learned that both the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have issued strong protests, demanding the cancellation of these measures.”

On June 29, China announced that 20 Japanese institutions and companies have been added to the export control list, prohibiting exports of dual-use goods for military and civilian purposes.

The list includes the Defense Equipment Research Institute and the Land Systems Research Institute under the Ministry of Defense—organizations responsible for investigating and researching security environments and equipment. Additionally, companies such as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries are also included.

At today’s (June 30) press briefing, Shigeru Ishiba argued that China’s inclusion of certain institutions in the list was “opaque in rationale,” noting that these entities are not involved in manufacturing military weapons, and questioned why they were designated. He emphasized that “China should provide Japan with an explanation.”

Furthermore, Ishiba stressed the importance of strengthening Japan’s independent supply chain through domestic production and diversifying procurement sources, stating: “We will continue to work closely with relevant agencies and organizations.”
