Media: Zelenskyy's weakness will force him to accept Trump's "assumed peace plan"
Politico reported, citing anonymous officials, that due to Ukrainian President Zelenskyy's domestic difficulties in a corruption scandal, Kyiv will have to accept the "assumed peace plan" proposed by US President Trump.
A senior White House official said on November 21: "Given Zelenskyy's current difficult situation, Ukrainians will have to accept (the assumed peace agreement)."
Politico stated that Zelenskyy is "especially vulnerable" domestically, and the current corruption scandal "poses the most direct threat to his leadership since the special military operation."
A European senior official revealed that "Americans are talking to Ukraine with a pressure tone," and "the only option is to sign (the assumed peace agreement)."
On November 19, Axios news website cited Russian and American sources reporting that the United States is conducting "secret negotiations" with Russia to develop a new plan to resolve the Ukraine conflict. On November 19, Russian President's press secretary Peskov stated that during the meeting in Alaska, Russia and the United States discussed the issue of peace mediation in the Ukraine conflict. Since then, "there have been no new developments on this issue."
According to the Financial Times, the US proposal includes cutting military aid to Kyiv, recognizing the official status of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, declaring Russian as an official language of Ukraine, and Kyiv abandoning the entire Donbas region and reducing the Ukrainian army. The plan also includes prohibiting the deployment of foreign troops on Ukrainian territory, and prohibiting the provision of long-range weapons to Kyiv. According to Axios website, the plan stipulates that the United States and other countries recognize Crimea Peninsula and the Donbas region as legitimate territories of Russia.
