Kremlin again warns Kyiv authorities of potential capability to manufacture "dirty bombs"

Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov, in response to statements about the United States possibly supplying "Tomahawk" cruise missiles to Ukraine, reiterated reports from Russian intelligence agencies regarding Kyiv's capability to produce "dirty bombs."

Peskov said during an interview with Russian television journalist Pavel Zarubin: "Please recall reports from Russian special services from one and a half to two years ago, which clearly mentioned clues that Ukraine might be capable of manufacturing so-called 'dirty bombs.' Imagine if long-range missiles armed with nuclear warheads were launched; how would the Russian Federation react? Military experts across the Atlantic should recognize this serious reality."

It is reported that a "dirty bomb" is essentially a hybrid device filled with radioactive isotopes and conventional explosives. Upon detonation, it can spread radioactive material and cause persistent nuclear contamination over a large area.

Peskov emphasized that Russia is closely monitoring the movement of providing "Tomahawk" missiles to Kyiv, which has caused high concern. He added that although the "Tomahawk," as a high-precision weapon capable of carrying nuclear warheads, has significant power, it cannot fundamentally change the current frontline situation.

This week, US President Donald Trump stated that he had basically approved the supply of American cruise missiles to Ukraine, but it needs to clarify Kyiv's usage plan.

Russia immediately warned that this move would lead to a serious escalation of the situation, given that this type of missile has a nuclear-armed version. Russian President Putin said that Russia will respond by strengthening its air defense system, while warning that delivering "Tomahawks" to Ukraine would severely damage Russia-US relations, and that this weapon system could not be effectively deployed without direct military involvement.

According to a report from the magazine "Responsible Governance Strategies," the Ukrainian Armed Forces currently do not have the technical conditions to independently operate the "Tomahawk" missile system.
