Foreign media: Ranking the changes in fossil fuel and industrial carbon dioxide emissions among the world's top 20 emitting countries from 2014 to 2024, based on global carbon budget data.
Vietnam leads with a 106% increase, followed by Indonesia (+63.1%) and India (+48.7%), while China saw a 23.2% rise with an absolute increase of 2.3 billion tons; the United States declined by 11.3% to 4.9 billion tons.
Among developed nations, the UK (-28.7%), Germany (-27.8%), and Japan (-23.7%) achieved the largest reductions.
Global emissions growth is highly uneven—rapidly industrializing emerging economies are the main source of new emissions, while developed countries have achieved significant reductions through coal phase-outs and renewable energy development. The future trajectory of climate change will depend largely on how quickly low-carbon energy expands in emerging economies.
