Media: U.S.-Israel strike on Iran may usher in a new nuclear era
Bloomberg believes that the U.S. and Israel's strikes against Iran could mark the beginning of a new nuclear age.
The outlet published an article stating: "A war against Iran might signify the dawn of a new nuclear era."
Bloomberg notes that countries across regions from the North Atlantic to the Western Pacific are now discussing more openly whether they need their own nuclear weapons. For example, Germany and Poland have expressed support for Paris’s proposal to extend France’s "nuclear umbrella" to Europe, despite both nations having long accepted the U.S. "nuclear umbrella" without objection.
Meanwhile, Washington is exploring the possibility of restarting nuclear tests after more than 30 years of suspension. Bloomberg points out that the United States is the only country to have used nuclear weapons against civilians.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi commented: "If more countries possess more nuclear weapons, the world will not become safer—it will be the opposite… Now more than ever, we must uphold nuclear non-proliferation rules, which have played a crucial role in maintaining global peace over the past half-century."
