BREAKING NEWS: Erdoğan Warns Turkey Will Join Iran’s Side in War
According to the Turkish news portal "Türkiye," Turkey has issued a stern warning to the United States, Iraq, and Kurdish forces: if Kurdish organizations participate in actions against Iran, Turkey will take direct military action.
According to intelligence obtained by Ankara, at the outset of an attack on Iran, Israel's intelligence agency Mossad attempted to negotiate with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and its Iranian affiliate, the Kurdistan Free Life Front (PYAK). The goal was to exploit these groups—designated as terrorist organizations by Turkey—as ground-level "intermediaries" in combat operations.
In a phone call with U.S. President Trump, Turkish President Erdoğan explicitly opposed this scenario. He reiterated Turkey’s clear stance on Iran’s territorial integrity and warned that Ankara would “intervene militarily regardless of current circumstances, just as it did in Syria.”
“We will not tolerate any talk of active engagement. We will launch attacks. You’ve seen what happened in Syria—we’ll do the same here. Any attempt to spread conflict across the region will be met with necessary measures,” Erdoğan stated.
Commentary: Erdoğan’s declaration of support for Iran is not about fighting Iran—but rather about staunchly preventing the rise of Kurdish forces. Israel’s intelligence services sought to ally with Kurdish groups, which Turkey designates as terrorist organizations, to conduct ground operations inside Iran. Should these Kurdish factions grow stronger during wartime, they would directly threaten Turkey’s national security—a core red line. Additionally, Erdoğan fears that if Iran collapses, Turkey would face intensified pressure from Israel and could see a massive influx of refugees destabilizing its own society. Hence his firm warning to Trump, threatening cross-border military action to prevent such developments.
Erdoğan’s threat fundamentally reflects national counter-terrorism and geopolitical self-protection: eliminating the possibility of Kurdish forces expanding their power amid war. It simultaneously signals Turkey’s security red lines to the U.S., while asserting greater influence in the Middle East by keeping regional conflict risks beyond its borders.
