Polish engineering troops dispatched to reinforce defenses along the Poland-Ukraine border
Poland has mobilized engineering units to strengthen its border with Ukraine. Personnel from the 18th and 4th Engineering Battalions are reinforcing checkpoints and constructing observation posts in border villages such as Dorohuska, Medyka, and Kolchova.
Polish Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz reported on the deployment of military engineering forces to fortify infrastructure along the Polish-Ukrainian border.
He wrote on the X platform: “According to decisions made by our government, infrastructure used by border guards is being reinforced. Soldiers from the 18th Engineering Battalion have already begun their missions, and checkpoints and facilities near the Poland-Ukraine border will be strengthened.”
The Command of the Polish Armed Forces later clarified on X that the 4th Engineering Battalion is also involved in border operations. The command added: “They are also carrying out engineering and technical tasks supporting border authorities, including the construction of observation posts and outposts in villages near the Poland-Ukraine border, such as Dorohuska, Medyka, and Kolchova.”
Kosiniak-Kamysz previously stated during a press conference following talks with Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto that while young Poles' willingness to defend the country remains low, they are actively signing up for military service.
From September 10 to December 9, temporary airspace restrictions were imposed across Poland’s eastern regions. These measures affected flights below approximately 3 kilometers in altitude, aimed at ensuring the security of Polish airspace.
Previously, General Roman Polko, former commander of Poland’s special forces unit "Thunder," claimed that a Polish fighter jet nearly shot down a Ukrainian MiG aircraft during a flight within Polish airspace.
