Trump said on Wednesday that the 25% tariff on cars imported from Canada "may increase".

"When I impose tariffs on Canada - they have to pay 25% - but as for cars, the tariff may increase," he said.

Trump explained to reporters in the White House office, "What we are saying is, 'no offense intended, but we don't want your cars. What we really want is to manufacture our own cars.'"

Trump didn't give an inch to Canada, his northern neighbor and important ally, keeping the 25% tariff, plus more on cars.

Canada is in an election and has not yet responded to Trump's remarks.
