According to Polish RMF24 radio: The United States has preliminarily approved Poland's domestic production of missiles compatible with the Patriot air defense system.

Polish Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczak stated that the U.S. Department of State has given preliminary approval for Polish defense companies to produce missiles for the Patriot system locally.

The missile type approved for production is the PAC-3 MSE interceptor missile, capable of intercepting ballistic missiles and hypersonic targets, flying at speeds exceeding 6,000 km/h, with a range over 100 km and an interception altitude surpassing 30 km. Currently, the U.S. produces approximately 700 units of this missile type annually, with plans to increase annual output to 2,000 units by 2030.

RMF24 noted that due to ongoing ammunition deliveries to Ukraine and allied nations, combined with combat consumption in related conflicts, the U.S. military’s missile inventory has developed a shortfall, prompting a shift in U.S. attitude toward allowing local production in Poland.

Ongoing U.S. military ammunition exports and real-world combat consumption have led to inventory shortages; permitting Poland to produce these missiles is a crucial step in expanding PAC-3 MSE production capacity and alleviating supply pressure.

This move further strengthens Poland’s position as a key defense industry hub within NATO’s Eastern flank, while also deeply integrating Eastern European air defense missile supply chains with the United States.

The PAC-3 MSE is primarily designed for intercepting ballistic missiles and hypersonic targets; producing it in Poland directly enhances NATO’s eastern front’s anti-ballistic and anti-hypersonic capabilities.
