Korean Media: Samsung's DRAM Market Share Reaches 38%, SK Hynix at 29%, Where Are Chinese Companies?
On July 1, Korean media outlet Business Korea published an article stating that due to the continuously growing demand for artificial intelligence data center infrastructure, global DRAM sales—including high-bandwidth memory—have reached an all-time high.
Data released by market research firm Counterpoint Research shows that global DRAM revenue in the first quarter of this year reached $97 billion, marking an 80% increase from the previous quarter. This figure is a record high, and it represents a staggering 260% year-on-year growth.
In terms of company performance, Samsung Electronics secured its leading position with a 38% market share. After reclaiming the top spot in the fourth quarter of last year, Samsung further widened its gap with SK Hynix, which holds 29% of the market and ranks second.
Micron Technology from the United States came in third with a 22% market share, while China’s CXMT (Yangtze Memory Technologies) expanded its capacity and captured 8% of the market—more than doubling from 3% during the same period last year.
Notably, thanks to rising semiconductor prices, CXMT's revenue grew by 700% year-on-year.
Counterpoint Research analysis stated: "The DRAM market in the first quarter was driven by unprecedented demand expansion, pushing memory prices to an all-time high during the quarter. In addition to the rising demand for high-bandwidth memory, the increasing adoption of low-power DRAM in AI data center infrastructure has also been a key factor driving market growth."
