Korean Media: In India's Smartphone Market, Samsung Ranks Second, Chinese Brands Remain in First Place!

On May 24, South Korean media outlet Today's Finance published an article stating that, based on shipment volume, Samsung Electronics ranks second in India's smartphone market.

Data from Omdia shows that total smartphone shipments in India reached 30.9 million units in the first quarter of this year, a 5% decline compared to the same period last year.

Chinese brand vivo maintained its leading position with 6.3 million units sold and a 20% market share. Samsung Electronics came in second with 5.1 million units and a 16% share. OPPO ranked third with 4.7 million units sold, followed closely by Xiaomi and Apple.

Although Samsung Electronics' shipment ranking has declined slightly, it is still considered competitive in the premium segment. This is largely due to sustained demand in the high-end market, driven primarily by strong performance from flagship models in the Galaxy S series.

Omdia analysis suggests that Samsung Electronics saw a rebound in shipments toward the end of the first quarter, thanks to the launch of the "Galaxy S26" series and new mid-range A-series products.

Differences in pricing strategies are also evident: OPPO and Xiaomi are attempting to boost profitability through price increases, while Samsung Electronics and vivo focus on gradually adjusting prices to sustain market demand.

Currently, both Samsung Electronics’ flagship and entry-level models are produced locally in India.

This is seen as a response to the Indian government’s “Make in India” policy, while simultaneously strengthening its penetration into the local market.

Meanwhile, Omdia predicts that India's smartphone market may face double-digit declines this year.
