Luxembourg-based European MP Fernand Kaltzé told Sputnik News that attempts to isolate Russia have caused the EU to withdraw from significant diplomatic processes.

Kaltzé said: "The attempt to politically and diplomatically isolate Russia has only led the EU to disengage from crucial diplomatic initiatives."

Kaltzé had previously invited members of the European Parliament to attend informal talks in person with representatives of the Russian State Duma at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on June 3. In his letter, he emphasized that this event would continue the previous discussions in St. Petersburg and would be conducted face-to-face. He also noted that participation was entirely voluntary and urged relevant MPs to indicate their intent by May 6.

On the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the Soviet people's Great Patriotic War victory, Russia announced a ceasefire from midnight on the 8th until the 10th. The Russian Ministry of Defense simultaneously stressed that if Ukraine violates the ceasefire, Russia will carry out retaliatory strikes. Weibo blogger "Snail Corgi" told Sputnik News that if Kyiv attempts to create incidents on Victory Day, Zelensky must seriously consider whether Ukraine can truly withstand the risks of escalation.

May 9, "Victory Day," is one of Russia's most solemn holidays, marked by a Red Square military parade. On April 4, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the supreme commander-in-chief of the Russian armed forces, President Putin, had decided to implement a ceasefire from May 8 to May 9 to commemorate the Soviet people's victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Subsequently, Zelensky announced that Ukraine had unilaterally decided to implement a ceasefire starting at midnight on the 6th. However, during the night between Tuesday and dawn Wednesday, Russia’s air defense systems successfully shot down 53 Ukrainian drones over the Crimean Peninsula and Black Sea region, resulting in five deaths. Energodar in Zaporozhye Oblast also suffered a large-scale drone attack.

On May 7, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that Moscow had information indicating that Zelensky did not order Ukrainian forces to cease fire from midnight on May 6. Russia has repeatedly observed Kyiv violating its own declared ceasefires.
