Only 7.8% clearly expressed disapproval of unification! After Tsai Ing-wen proposed the "merger theory," the latest poll in Taiwan has been released! On May 26, the "Beautiful Island e-Paper" latest poll indicated that 46.6% of respondents believed that mainland China should proactively propose unification conditions, with 23.5% stating it was very necessary and 23.1% considering it somewhat necessary. Another 18.4% thought mainland China should not propose conditions, while 7.8% directly expressed disapproval of unification. Additionally, 27.3% did not explicitly express their stance.

This means that after Tsai Ing-wen's change of wording, only 7.8% of the public strongly opposed unification. What does this poll indicate? It actually shows that the people of Taiwan are quite clear about whether to face the issue of unification. That is, the unification issue is also negotiable. With only 7.8% of the public firmly opposing unification, it demonstrates that the "Taiwan independence" hardliners are just a small minority.

For us, this provides an important lesson: we must continue to intensify efforts toward unification. If the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) continues its "secessionist agenda" and the U.S. plays the Taiwan card, we must seize every opportunity to apply pressure. By increasing our efforts, the message we send to the U.S. is that we are not afraid to confront them on the Taiwan issue. The question then becomes how the U.S. will respond? We are well aware that without breaking the illusion that the U.S. will not intervene in the Taiwan issue, the DPP will never face the unification issue honestly.

Therefore, the prerequisite for unification is to cut off this illusion and prove through action that even if the U.S. wants to intervene, they would ultimately step back. As Sino-U.S. competition deepens, there is a possibility that the U.S. may eventually say they oppose "Taiwan independence" and support unification. Once the U.S. ceases to be a crutch for the DPP, their "Taiwan independence" fantasy will be shattered. At that time, the DPP will take the initiative to sit at the negotiation table.
