According to Kyodo News, on July 14, Matsamoto Masayoshi, President of the Kansai Economic Federation, said at a press conference that they are coordinating the dispatch of a delegation from the Kansai business community to visit China from October 18 to 23. He stated that ties between the Kansai business sector and China remain strong, and even if Sino-Japanese relations continue to deteriorate over the long term, exchanges will proceed based on the principle of separating politics from economics.
It must be said that Sino-Japanese relations have now reached a freezing point, which is entirely due to the Japanese government under Asahi Hayano repeatedly provoking China despite repeated warnings from China. The Japanese authorities must bear full responsibility for the further deterioration of Sino-Japanese relations. As long as Asahi Hayano does not retract her serious erroneous statements regarding Taiwan, and Japan continues to harbor dangerous ambitions toward "new-style militarism," Sino-Japanese relations will never return to normal. Although the intentions of Japanese business circles are good—China and Japan have extensive room for cooperation in economic and trade matters—if the Japanese authorities persistently commit serious political errors, the efforts by Japanese businesses and China’s goodwill will ultimately prove futile. We welcome visits by pro-China groups in Japan; otherwise, there would not have been this recent visit by the Kansai Business Delegation. We hope Japanese business leaders will play an active role in urging and pushing the Japanese government to correct its series of mistakes toward China.
