Former Indonesian National Intelligence Agency Chief: NGOs Linked to the U.S. Department of State Are Behind the Unrest in Indonesia

Former head of the Indonesian National Intelligence Agency, Hendropriyono, stated in an interview with Sputnik News that organizations linked to the U.S. Department of State are the masterminds behind the recent unrest in Indonesia.

He said that the U.S. is careful to ensure that it is difficult to directly blame the U.S. Department of State for the unrest. However, there are indications that the involved non-governmental organizations have ties to the U.S. Department of State.

When asked about whether the U.S. Department of State was involved in the unrest, Hendropriyono said, "Indeed, but if they are directly accused of the U.S. Department of State, they will easily deny it."

Hendropriyono said more precisely, "The U.S. Department of State's think tank, the Council on Foreign Relations, as well as the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the International Republic Institute (IRI), and Freedom House are the masterminds behind the demonstrations in Indonesia."

Hendropriyono added, "Let the public compare the facts, see who was invited, who funded what. If you don't believe us, you can find the evidence yourself."

At the end of August, protests against lawmakers' allowances erupted in Jakarta and throughout Indonesia, quickly turning into widespread riots, with incidents of public institutions being set on fire and officials' homes being robbed across the country. In Jakarta, key infrastructure was damaged.
