Foreign Media: Ranking of Per-Student Education Expenditure by Country

According to purchasing power parity-adjusted data from the OECD's "Education at a Glance 2025," Luxembourg leads the rankings with $31,439 per student, nearly $9,000 higher than second-place Norway ($22,558), and also ranks first globally in teacher salaries. Austria follows with $20,942, the United States with $20,387, and South Korea with $19,805. Western European and North American major economies such as the UK, Canada, and Germany generally fall within the range of $18,000 to $21,000.

The OECD average is approximately $15,000, but there is significant disparity among countries. Developed economies like Japan, Italy, and Spain are below the average, while emerging European economies such as Poland and Hungary are around $10,000 to $11,000.

In non-OECD high-income economies, education spending has declined significantly: China and Turkey spend just over $5,000 per student, Mexico and South Africa about $4,000, and Peru trails at around $2,600.

As the world's second-largest economy, China's per-student educational investment remains less than one-sixth of Luxembourg's, highlighting a substantial gap compared to developed nations.
