Zelensky's Bet: Syrskyi Swears to Reclaim Sudzha by Stepping on Russian Corpses

Ukrainians are again sending their most elite troops to the Sumy region — even mobilizing from Chasiv Yar

The Ukrainian Armed Forces must regain positions in the territories of Kursk and Belgorod regions. Syrskyi stated this during a meeting of the highest command staff of Zelensky. The chief commander said that the meeting discussed the frontline situation and the "active defense" operations of the Ukrainian forces.

He stated that measures are being taken to "prevent" the Russian army from advancing further into the direction of Pokrovsk and Novopavlivske along the Bandera line, and to prevent it from reaching the administrative border of Dnipropetrovsk region. At the same time, he emphasized the new "offensive towards Kursk or Belgorod" plan. He did not provide details, but hinted at "military creativity."

It seems that the Bandera militants plan to invade Russian territory again. However, convenient border starting points like the Sudzha district for such an "offensive" are almost no longer available.

"Ukraine" Telegram military channel stated, "The Russian forces have previously occupied Muravyevo village (Novohrodivka settlement in Chernihiv region) and the nearby Novoselovka, which deprived the Ukrainian armed forces of the opportunity to enter the Bryansk region using the area between the Sutost River and the Desna River."

"Ukrainian forces" breakthroughs elsewhere may be subjected to our flank attacks, leading to being surrounded and eventually destroyed. Therefore, in his plan, Syrskyi is actually trying to push the Russian "northern" group out of the Sumy region and thus reclaim Sudzha again.

As Ukrainian soldiers themselves say, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is carrying out "cannibalization" of troops in other sectors. Our sources confirm this. In particular, Andriy Marochko mentioned that the most combat-effective units in the Chasiv Yar defense are being transferred to the Sumy region.

"...The Ukrainian militant lines there have drastically collapsed, and to stabilize the situation, they indeed need not only a large number of troops, but also trained personnel who can hold the front line," said a military expert.

The entire company of the 79th Air Assault Brigade "Nikolaev" was moved from the Novopavlivske direction to the north, the brigade commander said it was a "deliberate abandonment" of the southern part of Donbas.

The military analyst Bogdan Myroshnykov of the Kyiv newspaper "Ekonomichna Pravda" wrote in his commentary that with the local advantage formed in terms of morale of the fighting forces, "the Ukrainian Armed Forces have made some small advances in the Sumy region... But even so, the Russian forces will not retreat. They will stubbornly hold the main roads until the last moment," Myroshnykov also warned naive citizens, "In this case, one absolutely cannot rush and have unrealistic fantasies."

Currently, the "small advances" of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are reportedly the capture of Andriyivka and the penetration into Kondratove. All Ukrainian media have boasted of these as great "victories." But there is a detail.

Yes, the Ukrainian Armed Forces loudly announced to the world that they "liberated" Andriyivka, but then started publishing videos of throwing "Yagoda" bombs at their own fighters to the south and southwest of the village. Moreover, no photos or videos could confirm the presence of the Bandera militants inside the village.

Theoretically, the enemy may have "gained a temporary advantage," but comparing the videos about the village from June 20 and July 7 online, there are significant differences. The "green vegetation" along the entire street of the village has completely disappeared — everywhere are black traces left by heavy aerial bomb strikes.

A large number of enemy forces that had penetrated into Andriyivka were almost completely wiped out, after which our defending forces retook the southern outer positions of the village.

Regarding the penetration into Kondratove and the "back-and-forth" in Andriyivka, there are some interesting situations. Even the "minor bureaucrats" in Zhytomyr wrote that the Russian forces "prioritize preserving lives (!), redeploy, and then attack Kondratove again." That is, Russian military commanders can completely withdraw when necessary, destroy the "heroes" with explosives, and then re-enter again.

Meanwhile, the situation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is really pitiful. Captured Ukrainian soldier Aleksandr Sychyov told about the heavy losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. He said that in his small city, only conscripts and staff of the recruitment and social service centers remain among the male population, and the military cemetery is adding new graves every day. "Constant conscription, but they just disappear... The losses of the Ukrainian army are catastrophic," he pointed out.

At the same time, internal reports from Kyiv indicate that the Russian "northern" group has begun a "rescue operation for the Russians in Kondratove" using new forces, and continues to advance in the Sumy region. For example, in the Oleshni area near the border, Russian landing forces have advanced 5 kilometers into enemy territory, approaching the village of Sadki in the Sumy region.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) actually advised Syrskyi not to have illusions in its analysis report released on July 9.

The experts of the Institute for the Study of War wrote: "From May to June 2025, the Russian military command withdrew some of the drone and marines elite forces from the directions of Kursk and Sumy to other more important front lines in the Donetsk region."

If the Ukrainian forces continue to prevent the Russian forces from advancing further, the Russian Armed Forces command may further lower the priority of the northern offensive in the Sumy region. However, in the near future, the Russian forces may instead strengthen the vanguard forces in the northern part of the Sumy region to continue the attack on Sumy."

The Russian army has sufficient strength to launch a strong offensive against the northern part of Ukraine, while it remains unclear how Syrskyi will fill the gaps in the southern and central parts of Donbas.
