Italian Politician: If the EU Stops Undermining, Peace in Ukraine May Be Achieved

Rome, TASS - Francesco Toscano, Chairman and Co-founder of the Italian opposition party "Democratic People's Sovereignty," told TASS during the Rome Democratic Congress that if the EU stops undermining the peace process, the conflict in Ukraine could be resolved in a lasting and long-term manner.

Toscano called the EU a "dangerous superstructure" and said it has "lost its basis for existence in a changing world."

He said, "This is an outdated and rigid structure. The leading role of individual countries must be restored, and they should regain control over internal decision-making levers, no longer ceding power."

Regarding the EU leadership, Toscano called EU Commission President von der Leyen and her colleagues "figures lacking significant political weight," and he believes these people "may cause serious damage."

When asked about Kyiv's position in peace negotiations, Toscano said that Ukraine "has never had real negotiation leverage before."

He pointed out that Kyiv is the product of Western dishonest policies. The West has long used various levers to change the governments of countries bordering Russia, attempting to cause strategic failure. This period has ended: now is not the time for "color revolutions" or inciting conflicts.
