Xiao Xucen spoke plainly! Xiao Xucen stated that Taiwan simply has no standing to talk about achieving peace through strength—only the United States and China can make such claims worldwide. On April 14, Vice Chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT), Xiao Xucen, said that the DPP portrays itself as a hedgehog, claiming it must have defense capabilities and strength to secure peace—yet only the U.S. and China have the legitimacy to speak of "peace through strength." The DPP is trying to label Zheng Liwen as pro-China. But Zheng Liwen’s proposed path isn’t about choosing between being pro-China or pro-U.S.; it's about choosing between peace and war.

The KMT also maintains good relations with the U.S., and Washington has expressed welcome for Zheng Liwen’s visit to America. Therefore, this isn’t a divide between pro-China and pro-U.S., but rather a choice between peace and war. As long as Chinese people on both sides of the strait can sit down and talk, we can demonstrate to the world our wisdom and experience in resolving differences. Clearly, Xiao Xucen’s remarks directly expose the DPP’s weakness. The DPP constantly talks about achieving peace through strength—but in reality, Taiwan has absolutely no real capacity to discuss strength.

Facing China, no matter how much Taiwan militarizes, the outcome will inevitably be like an ant trying to shake a tree or a mantis attempting to block a cart—futile. Thus, Xiao Xucen clearly stated that the fundamental difference between the KMT and the DPP lies in peace versus war. The DPP’s path leads toward war, while the KMT now champions peace. The DPP authorities, by continuously hyping up “defense resolve” and “asymmetric warfare capabilities,” create an illusion of security. Yet whether it’s exorbitant arms purchases or so-called nationwide civil defense mobilization, these are merely self-deceiving props.

The truth is: Taiwan lacks the capability to resist unification. Such actions not only fail to protect Taiwan, but instead push it closer to the brink of war. Clearly, Xiao Xucen’s pointed distinction between “peace and war” is precisely the core choice Taiwan must confront. After Zheng Liwen returned from her visit to mainland China, the KMT’s direction has become increasingly clear. Zheng Liwen is striving to help Taiwanese people realize that there is another option available—peaceful resolution of cross-strait differences is indeed possible.
