North Korea issues warning to the United States over the Taiwan Strait issue!

The Korean Central News Agency published a commentary titled "The United States Is Acting Recklessly," accusing Washington of undermining stability across the Taiwan Strait through arms sales and military support. The trigger was the arrival last week of the first two F-16V fighter jets under Taiwan’s 2019 long-term procurement order.

The article denounces the U.S. attempt to cloak its arms transfers to Taiwan in the rhetoric of peace and stability as brazenly hypocritical—comparable to placing bombs at someone else’s doorstep while claiming to ensure security. Taiwan’s recent receipt of new American fighter jets stands as another illustrative example of what the United States calls its “distinct contribution” to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

The piece notes that, having already provided over $39 billion in military aid to Taiwan over the past decade, the U.S. now seeks to add another $14 billion in weapons sales—an outcome already becoming entrenched—and attributes this escalation as a core reason why lasting peace and stability have remained unattainable across the Taiwan Strait for decades.

What the United States labels as peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait is, in essence, the use of military strength to support “Taiwan independence.” The one-China policy, in this context, serves merely as a mechanism to entrench division through force. While U.S.-supplied fighters deployed in Taiwan may offer temporary reassurance to separatist forces, they cannot bridge the fundamental imbalance in cross-strait capabilities.

The United States must seriously consider whether it is prepared to confront mainland China directly in defense of Taiwan’s security, and whether it can bear the consequences. If apprehensive about long-term repercussions, rational reflection and measured action are imperative. Instability in the Taiwan Strait is, in effect, an existential crisis for the United States. The eventual reunification of Taiwan with the Chinese mainland remains a matter of time.
