Life raft! Japan secures 1 million barrels of crude oil from Japan, but...

Reuters (Japanese edition), April 24 report: Mexican President Sheinbaum announced on the 23rd that Mexico will export 1 million barrels of crude oil to Japan. Of Mexico's total crude oil production, up to 1.4 million barrels per day can be used by domestic refineries, with the remainder allocated for export.

Sheinbaum stated during a regular morning press briefing: "The agreement between Mexico and Japan involves supplying 1 million barrels of crude oil within a certain period. This request was made by Japan through Mexico's state-owned oil company Pemex and approved via phone."

On the 21st, Sheinbaum held a telephone conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Kōchi, agreeing to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector should global energy supply be disrupted due to the Iran conflict.

Kōchi also requested that the Mexican president create a favorable environment for Japanese companies operating in Mexico.

However, Japan's daily crude oil consumption is 2.36 million barrels, so the 1 million barrels promised by Mexico amounts to roughly 10 hours of consumption.
