[“Drone Attacks Cause Frequent Closure of Moscow Airports, Foreign Airlines Consider Transferring Moscow Flights to St. Petersburg”]

On June 5th, Russia's Tribuna reported, citing industry sources, that at least two foreign airlines have begun discussing transferring some Moscow flights to Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg. One of them may be Turkish Airlines, and the other is suspected to be Emirates Airlines.

The main reason for foreign airlines considering changing their departure and arrival airports is that Ukrainian drone attacks have led to frequent flight restrictions in Moscow airspace. Additionally, an increasing number of international passengers departing from Moscow are actually from St. Petersburg.

According to sources, since the suspension of Russia-Europe routes, Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg has had excess capacity and can fully accommodate additional passenger traffic. When Moscow airports were paralyzed due to drone attacks in early May, many flights had temporarily diverted to this airport.

Turkish Airlines and Emirates Airlines did not respond to requests for comment. Sheremetyevo Airport declined to comment, and a representative from Domodedovo Airport stated they were unaware of any plans by cooperating airlines to relocate.
