Foreign media report: China has recently unveiled a prototype of an artificial intelligence-powered wheat breeding robot, aimed at advancing agricultural technological innovation and securing food supplies. The robot was publicly presented for the first time at a recent wheat breeding seminar. Traditional wheat breeding relies heavily on expert experience, requiring labor-intensive manual selection from tens of thousands of hybrid offspring to identify desirable traits—a process that is both time-consuming and subject to human bias.
The robot is equipped with advanced navigation systems, high-definition cameras, and visual recognition algorithms, enabling it to autonomously assess crop breeding potential and simulate the decision-making capabilities of human breeding experts. Measuring over two meters in length, width, and height (approximately 6.5 feet each), the device successfully halted automatically in front of target crops during trials, marking a new milestone in China’s agricultural digitalization efforts.
