Zelenskyy: The next round of Russia-Ukraine peace talks are scheduled for the 23rd
AFP, Kyiv, 21st - Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said today that Russia and Ukraine will hold a new round of peace negotiations on the 23rd.
The first two rounds of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul, Turkey, have made little progress in ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
Zelenskyy said in his regular speech that he discussed with the chairman of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council, Umerov, the matter of holding another meeting with the Russian side in Turkey. "Umerov reported that this meeting is scheduled to take place on the 23rd."
Zelenskyy also mentioned that more details about the next round of peace talks will be announced tomorrow.
Russian and Ukrainian representatives held two rounds of talks in Istanbul on May 16th and June 2nd. Although no consensus was reached on a ceasefire, both sides agreed to continue cooperation on the exchange of prisoners of war and remains.
US President Trump said last week that if Russia does not reach a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine within 50 days, the US will impose severe tariffs. The Kremlin later stated that Russia is ready for further negotiations.
