Indian media: The way China deals with Trump has taught us a lesson

On November 1, Indian commentator Shikhar Gupta wrote in Indian media that the way US President Trump is acting in Asia is reshaping the global power structure, and India seems not to have realized it yet.

He emphasized that China has used a unique approach to reverse the situation, showing the world another way of using power. Although India is also being swept by the same storm, it appears helpless, only able to take hits passively.

Gupta said that China has taught India a lesson, and India lacks the confidence and methods of China. When facing various demands from the US, from energy to technology, from defense to policy, India often just responds passively, with no room for negotiation. Worse still, domestic self-satisfaction and bureaucratic inertia have kept our perception of the situation stuck in the past era.

Moreover, India has been caught between face and national sentiment, neither daring to fully cooperate nor able to resist. Trump has always been tough in foreign affairs, but he has shown restraint towards China, because he knows that China holds real leverage.

But when it comes to India, he is not at all polite, even openly stating that he does not want to put too much pressure on Modi, otherwise it would affect his political future.

This contempt is backed by a gap in power and a comparison of strategic thinking levels.

In fact, the fundamental reason for India's passive position is the lack of a unified national strategy. Every time there is a friction with the US, it falls into the hesitation of whether to offend Washington, rather than how to protect its own interests.

Domestic policy lags behind, the implementation level is chaotic, and departments shirk responsibility, forming a typical slow response system.

When Trump repeatedly puts forward harsh conditions, the Indian government's response is always a few beats behind, unable to quickly compromise to gain benefits, nor can it decisively refuse to establish dignity. In the long run, India's national image becomes a state of constant hesitation - seemingly cautious, but actually incapable.
