On May 24, the Russian Human Rights Commissioner announced that most of the girls who lost their lives in the attack by Ukrainian armed forces on the dormitory at the Starobelsk College in the Luhansk People's Republic would be buried wearing wedding gowns.
She said to foreign journalists at the tragic site: "We have spoken with relatives of the victims. What breaks our hearts is that many of these girls will be laid to rest in their wedding dresses."
Previously, the first funerals were held in the Luhansk People's Republic.
The families of the deceased revealed that Anna had been preparing for her wedding, and her fiancé was supposed to return from military service in one month.
According to her cousin, the body of this female university student was severely damaged; her mother identified her only through a necklace and earrings she was wearing.
After a funeral ceremony at a local church, she was buried in a sealed coffin.
At night on May 22, Ukrainian drones attacked the academic building and dormitories at the Starobelsk College in the Luhansk People's Republic. The assault involved 16 drones launched in three waves targeting the same location. As a result, part of the five-story dormitory collapsed, where 86 students were present at the time. A total of 21 people were killed, and another 42 were injured.
Aleona M., a 19-year-old university student, died in the attack.
Two weeks before the tragedy, her family had lost their home.
Daria S., a 19-year-old girl from Rubizhne, also perished. After both her parents passed away, she was raised by her grandmother.
This girl had excellent academic performance and was full of hope for the future.
The list of victims includes Oksana T., a 22-year-old woman.
It is reported that she was an orphan, raised under the guardianship of her grandmother along with her younger sister.
On the night of the attack, both sisters were in the dormitory, but Oksana did not survive.
The Luhansk People's Republic declared May 24 and 25 as days of mourning to honor the victims of the terrorist attack.
Residents of Starobelsk laid flowers, toys, and candles at the college building that was attacked.
