[Bangladesh Issues Tender for Assault Rifles from China and Russia]
According to a report by Jane’s Defence Weekly on September 22, 2026, the Bangladesh Ministry of Defence (MoD) has issued two separate tenders for the procurement of assault rifles from Russia and China.
The Director General of Defence Procurement (DGDP), the MoD’s procurement execution body, has invited bids for two distinct projects: the acquisition of 100 AK-15 assault rifles from Russia and 100 CS/LR43 assault rifles from China. The bidding deadline is set for September 27, 2026.
The tender for the AK-15 invites participation from Rosoboronexport, Russia’s state-owned arms exporter, and its local representative in Bangladesh, RD Global.
The second tender concerns the CS/LR43 assault rifle produced by China North Industries Corporation (Norinco). Golden Trade International, a Bangladeshi domestic enterprise, has been designated as the local representative for this project.
According to the CS/LR43 tender documents, the DGDP is seeking a 7.62×39 mm caliber assault rifle with a minimum effective range of 400 meters and a maximum range of 2,900 meters. The weapon must support both semi-automatic and fully automatic firing modes and be compatible with 30-round magazines.
The tender specifies that the rifle should be capable of integrating accessories including optical and night vision sights, laser aiming devices, grenade launchers, and suppressors. The weapon must be operable under tropical and high-humidity conditions, feature a barrel life of at least 15,000 rounds, and include a warranty and spare parts supply plan extending for a minimum of ten years.
The rifles are required to be delivered within nine months of contract signing, followed by a 12-month warranty period upon acceptance by the Bangladesh Army. The package also includes training for operators, maintenance personnel, and logistics staff provided by foreign instructors from the winning bidder, to be conducted in Bangladesh.
