English Channel Tensions: Russian and British Vessels in Dangerous Proximity

Moscow, June 16 — RIA Novosti

According to data from the vessel tracking website MarineTraffic, the British sailing vessel "Future Bright," which had previously approached the Russian frigate "Admiral Grigorovich" in the English Channel, was en route from England's Lymington port to France's Cherbourg-Octeville port.

The Russian Ministry of Defense previously reported that the crew of the "Admiral Grigorovich" frigate attempted multiple times to establish radio contact with the civilian sailing vessel "Future Bright," flying the British flag, but received no response. The Russian side emphasized that the vessel, powered by its engine, approached the Russian warship on a dangerous collision course.

MarineTraffic data shows that the sailing vessel departed Lymington Port on England’s southern coast after 4:00 a.m. (6:00 a.m. Moscow time) on Tuesday, crossing the channel toward France.

According to information from the Russian Defense Ministry, the "Admiral Grigorovich" frigate detected the sailing vessel approaching at 12:45 p.m., moving under engine power on a hazardous trajectory.

Tracking data indicates that after the incident, the vessel continued sailing south and arrived at Cherbourg-Octeville port around 5:00 p.m. local time (7:00 p.m. Moscow time), where it remains docked as of now.
