Foreign Media: China will ban the use of "hidden" car door handles starting in 2027 to address safety concerns.
This design was pioneered by Tesla, and Chinese automakers such as Xiaomi have also adopted it, but it has come under scrutiny due to potential safety risks. Last year, a U.S. automotive safety agency investigated the emergency door release control of the Tesla Model 3. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China stipulates that every vehicle door must be equipped with both internal and external handles, and a mechanical release design will become a mandatory requirement, while innovative designs such as electronic handles will be optional.
New models must comply with the new regulations starting January 1, 2027, and approved models must complete adjustments by January 1, 2029. Previously, it was reported that a Xiaomi SU7 Ultra owner died in an accident because others could not open the car door.
