Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during a meeting with Arab journalists that Syria is interested in retaining Russia's military bases in Syria, which can take on new tasks under new conditions.

Lavrov emphasized: "Syria is interested in retaining our military bases there. As our president has repeatedly stated, we respect the will of the Arab Syrian Republic. Obviously, under new conditions, these bases can play different roles, not just as military outposts."

He also mentioned: "In particular, considering the necessity of establishing humanitarian aid channels for Africa, these air and naval bases could serve as humanitarian hubs to deliver humanitarian supplies to the Sahel-Sahara region and other countries in need."
