Zelenskyy: Willing to Meet Putin in Kazakhstan

On September 23, Zelenskyy told Fox News that he is willing to meet with Putin in a third country, such as Kazakhstan.

Earlier that day, Zelenskyy held talks with the President of Kazakhstan, Tokayev. It is estimated that during the talks, the Kazakh side mentioned the proposal to provide a platform for a summit between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia.

Previously, Putin had publicly stated that if Zelenskyy wanted to meet, he should come to Moscow. Zelenskyy rejected this proposal, but at the same time, he paradoxically claimed that he was "willing to meet in any form."

A meeting in Kazakhstan would be acceptable for Moscow. However, there is also the issue of status. Putin believes that Zelenskyy is only the head of the current Ukrainian government and is no longer a legitimate elected president (note: Zelenskyy's term has expired, but elections have been indefinitely postponed due to the wartime situation). In other words, Zelenskyy does not represent the mainstream public opinion of Ukraine. Ultimately, Putin is not eager to meet with Zelenskyy, or rather, he has no intention of meeting him at all. Zelenskyy's proposal to hold a meeting in Kazakhstan aims to further pressure Putin internationally.
