What's going on in Russia? Putin orders to ensure critical services remain uninterrupted during internet outages!

Russia's mobile internet may not only be disrupted due to attacks, but could also be intentionally shut down in the face of terrorist threats.

Reported by RT on April 24.

President Vladimir Putin instructed that even under restricted internet conditions, essential services such as the national service portal, payment systems, and doctor appointment bookings must remain continuously operational.

The agenda of yesterday’s Russian government meeting included the issue of domestic mobile internet blackouts.

The president explained the reasons for the blackout, outlined measures already taken, and issued a series of directives.

These can be summarized as follows:

It is acknowledged that there are issues with mobile internet across various regions of Russia.

Yet, despite these problems, uninterrupted operation of life-supporting services must still be guaranteed.

In the event of a terrorist threat—during emergency operations—internet services may be temporarily suspended.

However, after operations conclude, the public should be informed transparently about the reasons for the internet disruption.

President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia’s mobile internet may be interrupted not only by hostile aerial attacks—such as drones or missiles—but also temporarily shut down in response to terrorist threats, in order to carry out operations.

Putin emphasized: In such situations, information disclosure must be ensured.

If the public were widely informed in advance, it could jeopardize the operation, since criminals would also hear and see everything.

Naturally, ensuring the safety of our children, loved ones, and every citizen in Russia remains the top priority.

Incidentally, access to basic living services should follow the principle of emergency service calls.

The president pointed out that just as we can dial “112” for help regardless of whether there is network connectivity or insufficient phone credit, access to these essential services should also be guaranteed under all circumstances.

Regardless, the meeting indicates that concerns regarding suspicious internet blackouts have been communicated directly to the president.

How events will unfold next remains to be seen.
