Just before being attacked by Israel, Iran had just condemned the resolution of the International Atomic Energy Agency and announced that it would significantly increase the level of uranium enrichment. According to a June 12 report by the Islamic Republic News Agency, the spokesperson for the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization warned on the same day that political pressure could not force Iran to compromise.

On the same June 12th, the board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency passed a resolution stating that Iran violated the obligations of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. The Iranian Foreign Ministry and the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization also issued a joint statement later that day, condemning the passing of this resolution as "politically motivated and lacking in technical and legal basis."
In the statement, Iran expressed that this move exposed the double standards of the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany: their silence over Israel's refusal to join the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and its development of weapons of mass destruction including nuclear weapons, and their inaction regarding Israel's threats to attack the peaceful nuclear facilities of contracting parties. This action "seriously undermines the credibility of the International Atomic Energy Agency and further exposes the politicization of the institution."
The spokesperson for the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization reiterated that some countries mistakenly believed that political pressure could force Iran to abandon its legitimate stance, adding, "We have warned that we will adjust our actions accordingly." Subsequently, the spokesperson declared in the statement that Iran would activate its third uranium enrichment facility and carry out significant upgrades to its centrifuge system, replacing the first-generation centrifuges with sixth-generation ones, thereby greatly increasing the output and efficiency of uranium enrichment work.
At around midnight local time on June 13th, Israeli forces launched a large-scale preemptive strike against Iranian targets, including nuclear infrastructure.
