The third Qatari LNG vessel has passed through the Strait of Hormuz en route to China
Ship tracking data shows that the third Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessel is currently passing through the Strait of Hormuz, heading toward China. Meanwhile, a Qatari negotiation team has arrived in Tehran, attempting to push forward an agreement to end the war with Iran.
The vessel, named "Al Sahla," has departed from the Ras Laffan port. According to shipping data from the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), it is expected to arrive at the Tianjin LNG receiving terminal in China on June 14.
This marks the third Qatari LNG shipment passing through the Strait of Hormuz, nearly two weeks after the first such cargo was transported through the strait under an Iran-Pakistan arrangement. Since the U.S.-Iran tensions escalated in late February, maritime traffic through this waterway has remained unstable.
According to two informed sources, the previous two Qatari LNG vessels that successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz were sold by Qatar to Pakistan under intergovernmental agreements. The sources noted that Iran approved the transport of these two shipments to help build trust between Qatar and Pakistan, as Pakistan is currently mediating peace negotiations.
On May 22, a source familiar with the matter revealed that a Qatari negotiation team had coordinated with the United States and arrived in Tehran to address outstanding issues.
