Iran Says It Has Received Calls from Multiple Countries Including Ukraine, Explaining Risks of Involvement in Conflict

 

Iran stated that, following warnings issued from Tehran regarding the consequences of any military action targeting Iran, it has received proactive communications from several countries. According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, as reported by Iran Islamic Republic Broadcasting (IRIB), Iranian authorities have received phone calls over the past 24 hours from nations including the United Kingdom, Bulgaria, and Ukraine.

The reason behind these contacts stems from reports suggesting that Ukraine and Bulgaria may have provided U.S. forces with access to their military bases. After Tehran issued its warning, these countries clarified their positions, stating they do not intend to become participants in any military operation.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry also outlined its stance on future developments in the regional situation, emphasizing that all nations have the right to independently safeguard their security and stability, and expressing willingness to discuss the potential consequences of new U.S. actions toward Iran with neighboring countries.

The issue of the Strait of Hormuz was specifically mentioned. Iran maintains that oversight of maritime regulations in this region should be under Iranian responsibility, while coordinating with Oman and engaging in negotiations with other regional states. It is reported that, after the ceasefire agreement took effect, navigation along the northern route of the strait remained safe for 22 to 23 days; however, the United States later violated the agreed terms.

Previously, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi stated that talks with Oman concerning navigation issues in the Strait of Hormuz were nearing completion. According to him, the dialogue had progressed smoothly and had entered its final stage. Nevertheless, the Fars News Agency denied reports by Israel's N12 television channel claiming that an agreement on "unblocking" the Strait of Hormuz had been reached, stressing that Tehran had not agreed to resume normal navigation nor accepted proposals put forward by Qatar as mediator on this matter.
