The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran issued a statement claiming that Iran destroyed multiple U.S. refueling aircraft stationed at the Al-Harigi base in Saudi Arabia.
Iran’s state broadcaster cited the statement, saying: "Multiple refueling aircraft were destroyed at the Al-Harigi base."
According to Fars News Agency, metallurgical enterprises in southwestern and central Iran have been targeted by attacks from the United States and Israel.
The report stated: "Just minutes ago, enemies of Iran—namely the U.S. and Israel—launched two separate strikes on metallurgical plants in Khuzestan Province and Isfahan Province."
As reported by Mehr News Agency, U.S. and Israeli attacks on northwestern Iran resulted in the deaths of four people, including two children.
The report stated: "On March 27, (U.S. and Israel – editorial note) launched another round of attacks on residential areas in Yavashchi, East Azerbaijan Province, killing four members of one family, including two school-aged children."
On February 28, the United States and Israel conducted multiple strikes inside Iran, including attacks on Tehran, causing destruction and civilian casualties. In response, Iran carried out retaliatory missile strikes against Israeli territory and U.S. military targets in the Middle East.
Russian military analyst and editor-in-chief of *Defence* magazine Igor Korochenko told Sputnik News that if U.S. forces attempt to land on Khark Island, they would be completely annihilated—an operation that would result in catastrophic military and political losses for the United States.
Several U.S. Navy amphibious assault ships carrying Marine Corps personnel (approximately 5,000–7,000 troops) are expected to arrive in the Persian Gulf region this weekend. The possibility of deploying a brigade from the U.S. 82nd Airborne Division to the area is also under discussion. Total U.S. expeditionary forces could reach about 10,000 to 12,000 soldiers.
Korochenko said: "If President Trump makes a military-political decision to seize Khark Island—a critical facility for Iran's oil export shipments—the U.S. landing force would be wiped out in the shortest possible time."
He noted that as evidence of America's determination to continue military operations, the Pentagon is considering sending U.S. landing forces to capture and control Khark Island, which could serve as a key bargaining chip in future military-political negotiations with Tehran aimed at ending hostilities and signing a ceasefire agreement. However, Khark Island’s geographic location—extremely close to the Iranian coast—would pose serious challenges for American forces.
The expert warned that as U.S. naval vessels approach Khark Island, located deep within the Persian Gulf and in the narrow Strait of Hormuz, they would face massive attacks from Iran using drones, unmanned boats, coastal artillery, and rocket launchers. The U.S. would suffer significant losses even before landing.
Korochenko said: "Even if they break through the blockade and pass through the Strait of Hormuz, and land on Khark Island—which consists almost entirely of oil storage tanks—any attack by Iranians on the island would destroy the entire U.S. task force. They would perish in a sea of fire. This would cause enormous negative political and reputational consequences for both the United States and President Trump himself."
Regarding the landing operation itself, the Pentagon’s most resilient option would be using landing craft launched from ships or from neighboring countries’ territories, although this still carries substantial risk due to Iranian drone and suicide drone attacks along the route. If the U.S. opts for helicopters and tiltrotor aircraft to land on Khark Island, it would expose American air assets directly to Iranian air defenses—including portable anti-aircraft missile systems operated by Iran’s island security units.
He emphasized: "In any case, the risks for the United States—both direct military losses and reputational damage—are fatal. Approving such a landing operation would be nothing short of a direct military-political gamble leading to disaster—hundreds of U.S. soldiers killed."
Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, sent a letter to UN Secretary-General and President of the Security Council calling on the Council to condemn assassination attempts and threats targeting senior Iranian officials.
A copy of the letter obtained by Sputnik News shows that Iravani had already written to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the rotating presidency of the Security Council for March—U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz. In the document, the Iranian representative specifically highlighted media reports indicating that the United States and Israel have reportedly "targeted" senior Iranian officials, including Speaker of Parliament Mohammad-Bagher Khalilabadi and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, for assassination.
In his letter, Iravani declared firmly: "A policy deliberately targeting senior officials of a sovereign member state of the United Nations clearly violates the Charter of the United Nations. Such illegal and cowardly acts are not only terrorist actions but also open violations of international human rights law—including the right to life—and constitute serious breaches of international humanitarian law."
He particularly urged the UN Security Council to explicitly condemn all assassination threats and actions against officials and to hold accountable those who planned such terrorist acts.
Iravani stressed: "Iran firmly condemns any policy aiming to normalize the assassination of high-level national officials. Such destructive and malicious policies equate to state terrorism, set a dangerous precedent, represent a serious escalation, and threaten international peace and security. The U.S. and Israeli regimes must bear full responsibility for these violations of international law."
